Quick Medical Care All Summer Long

Summertime can be considered to be the best time of the year! The weather is warmer, we are outside enjoying the sun, and all of those summertime activities. What isn’t there to love? While there is certainly lots of enjoyment to have in the summer, there is also a heighten alert for injuries and illnesses where you might need to seek immediate medical care . Since we are spending most of our time outdoors, lounging in the pool or building sandcastles, we are also over exposing our skin to the sun. For some of us we think that is great because we are darkening our skin but that can cause more harm than good.

Without proper protection the sun can have damaging effects on our skin and health. While we have to argue that there are benefits to sun exposure like, Vitamin D, mental wellbeing and there also may be a link to a reduction of developing multiple sclerosis. However, with too much exposure the benefits outweigh the risks. While, most of us are familiar with the knowledge of the sun causing sun burn, there are still many more risks than that.

If you talk to someone who has the displeasure of experiencing really bad sunburn than you know how bad they can get. Sunburn can leave you feeling queasy, light headed, and leave you with nasty blisters where you might need to seek immediate medical care. Repeated burning of the skin is not healthy because it does not allow for new skin growth. Along with the visual impurities that can result from sun damage, such as wrinkles, skin discoloration, and loss of elasticity, burning of the skin can drastically lead to skin cancer.

Skin cancer is something that should not be taken lightly. The numbers of people having skin cancer are increasing because of environmental factors and lack of proper sun preparation. It is recommended that when outside you should be using a sunscreen that protects you from UVA and UVB rays and it should reapplied every 2 hours, no matter what activity you are doing. Proper sunscreen application means using enough for your whole body and used on hard to reach places, like the back of our legs and tops of our feet. New sunscreen is constantly hitting the market, so look for ones that offer a full spectrum of benefits. Also, look for ones that are easy to apply so it makes reapplying faster and more efficient.
